K Constantinople cymbals speak with the dark warm sound associated with Zildjian cymbals made in Turkey in the first half of the 20th Century. "Old Ks" first resurfaced during the 1950s and 1960s in set-ups of bebop era vanguard drummers like Elvin Jones.

K Constantinoples are hand-lathed by skilled artisans using old-style cutting tools. Pits and other surface impurities, that modern finishing processes remove, are retained, preserving the original tonal quality.

Sound that's Always in Style. Legend. Legacy. The innovative cymbal work of Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Tony Williams or any one of a sweeping collection of the greatest drummers in history. They’ve all been fueled by K cymbals. The deep, dry and shimmering sounds developed by Kerope Zildjian in 19th Century Turkey continue to inspire drummers today. Elaborate hammering and lathing work our secret alloy into versatile cymbals with a wide-ranging blend of high and low frequencies that can be mellow or intense. It all depends on how you play them.

This cymbal has a great amount of dark tonal warmth that is perfect for the jazz genre, particularly 50's - 60's quintet and a Big Band sound. The ride articulation is quite prounounced even when using wood-tip sticks. The articulation is without any distracting ping. Its wash is very controllable and does not overpower its ride ability. The one thing that struck me about this particular ride cymbal was how well this cymbal records. Recording the same set of songs using this 22" K. Zildjian Constantinople versus using a 22" A. Zildjian made a world of difference in the recorded song quality. The A.Zildjian was too sterile and digitally cold sounding much like a midi-sample whereas the K. Zildjian Constantinople sound brought a sense of welll blended warmth to the recordings making the songs even more alive. Great cymbal. Great quality. Price is not for the faint-hearted. However this cymbal is one of those core-cymbals that you will never wish to part with which mkaes itys high price tag tolerable. Review by Bill aka BangTheDrumAllDay (Posted on 11/23/2010)
