This new addition to the Zildjian Rarities Program is inspired by Zildjian Artist, Adam Nussbaum. Borrowing from aspects of various Zildjian cymbals, the 22" K Constantinople Renaissance Ride (K116) has three rows of over-hammering, cluster hammering marks like those found on the K Symphonic Orchestral series, and are medium thin in weight. An additional series of over hammered marks on top of the traditional K Constantinople hammering yields a slightly drier sound with excellent stick definition for marking time. Very controllable in that it doesn't get away from you when playing fast patterns. Great for small to medium sized group settings.
K Constantinople cymbals speak with the dark warm sound associated with Zildjian cymbals made in Turkey in the first half of the 20th Century. "Old K's" first resurfaced during the 1950s and 1960s in set-ups of bebop era vanguard drummers like Elvin Jones. The deep, dry and shimmering sounds developed by Kerope Zildjian in 19th Century Turkey continue to inspire drummers today.
New K Constantinoples are hand-lathed by skilled artisans using old-style cutting tools. Pits and other surface impurities, that modern finishing processes remove, are retained, preserving the original tonal quality. Elaborate hammering and lathing work the Zildjian secret alloy into versatile cymbals with a wide-ranging blend of high and low frequencies that can be mellow or intense. It all depends on how you play them.
