- Great practice set!
-
Bought the TD-4 as a practice set recently through Columbus Percussion and I'm very impressed with it. First, I can play it in the basement without upsetting my wife (yes!). Second, the options are a little limited (only 86 different percussion sounds), but you have a surprising amount of room to change those sounds through mixing, panning, muffling, and ambiance (reverb) options. And third, the pass-through option allows you to hook up an MP3 player and play along with whatever you want to practice, which is perfect for homework between rehearsals and gigs.Quality Price Value
Most recently I was forced to actually use the TD-4 for a gig. Not originally what I intended to use it for, but the venue did not want a full drumset because of the volume. The bass player and I panned the kick drum to one side and everything else to the other, then used the 1/4 plugs out to a small mixer on stage that split the signal to a small monitor (which we had control over) and low impedence lines to the snake. This gave the soundman two channels, with kick drum on one and everything else on the other. He was very happy, and the sound was actually very high quality. People actually came up after the gig to just look at the drumset because they couldn't believe the sound it produced. In short, it worked better than we anticipated.
My only two complaints is that 1) the rack can get a little wobbly and needs periodic adjustment and tightening down; and 2) I wish I bought this thing 10 years ago! (Posted on 3/13/2012)
