Pete Retzlaff is coming to Columbus Percussion on Thursday, April 16 at 8:00 PM! Peter is best known for his approach to jazz, funk and ensemble-playing. He holds a Masters Degree from Manhattan School of Music, and has studied with such greats as David Garibaldi, Gary Chaffee, John Riley, Ed Soph and Billy Hart. He has performed with Maynard Ferguson, and pianist Kenny Werner as well as Diane Schuur and Greg Osby. He maintains an active private teaching schedule, instructing classes in jazz, funk, rock, reggae, fusion, odd times, reading, rudiments, independence and ensemble performance at the Drummers Collective in New York. Peter has been awarded three grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and was a featured clinician and speaker at the 2003 PASIC Conference.
Peter is a Columbus native who worked with legendary Columbus bands such as “Zero One”, “Vinly”, and “Five Mighty People”. He returns to Columbus with his European band to do a combination clincic/concert. Peter is one of very few players who is equally comfortable and strong playing both rock, funk, and jazz styles. This promises to be a very special evening of creative music, as well as a very informative clinic.
